I had a discussion with Propaganda a few months ago, about the warrior rites of the Gurkhas, one of the things I was explaining was how every 'real' kukri sold was 'tested'.  The test always consists of beheading a goat.  After all, if a sword can't cut a head off, what good is it?  The neck of a goat is near identical in size and mass to a human neck.

On Navrati, a Hindu religious festival, the Gurkhas decapitate cattle, this fact was met with some scepticism... Wink

The Kukri is a sword, not a knife, and actually, the kukri in the video is only probably 4 inches longer than a normal battle ready version.

The kukri may be small compared to regular swords, but it has much more power - it is torso/limb cutting/controlling weapon, rather than a slashing or stabbibng weapon (althoug it does that too).  The blade curves forward rather than backward (some Filipino swords do this also i.e. Lahot) and the spine is thick and heavy to ensure the necessary power is delviered everytime.  Deadly and battle proven weapon!!  Some versions of Bando (Nepalese/Burmese fighting art) teach the use of the Kukri (as well as some North Indian Sikh martial arts) but the real science is still pretty much uncommercialised and remains with Gurkhas and Nepalese villagers.

I have a limited ed version, which is smaller than regular ( I hate large/heavy swords) and is also edged on the top half of the spine!

Yep, the Gurkhas and the Kukri are formidable weapons.

GM Yuli had a chance to compare notes with a few at his Singapore seminar a while back Wink

Like PG Ah Loong says about the WC Butterfly Knives, once you learn, understand and practice BZ concepts you can be proficient with any weapon - and without. That's why I love it so much  Cool
