For Ifugao:

http://www.mnsu.edu/emuseum/cultural/oldworld/asia/ifugaopeople.html

Not sure what you mwan by the "kayak" tribe.

It's not listed as a tribe on Wiki etc.

The headhunting "Ilongots" are an interesting lot.

A google book here:

One of the reasons I'm trying to source info is years ago I managed to rent a video (tape) of the documentary "Hearts of Darkness". The doco was made by Eleanor Coppola on the making of "Apocalypse Now". In the doco there is a section showing Francis Ford Coppola desperately trying to figure out how to do the final scene (the death of Kurtz).
They had recruited a band of Ifugaos as Kurtz' soldiers; Eleanor and FFC had been invited to
witness an Ifugao ceremony slaughtering a caribou. The ceremony was used as the inspiration for
Willard killing Kurtz.
The doco has been re-released on dvd but the section (8-24) dealing with the Ifugau appears to have some footage of the slaughtering removed.
Supposedly there is quite abit of footage that Eleanor took of different Ifugao ceremonies.

An interesting article I came across describing the relationship of tattoos to head taking, primarily groups in northwestern Luzon.

Cool website.

Reminds me of the "Tattoo Searcher" anthropologist guy on one of the documentary channels (Discovery?) who goes back and beyond to see the processes for tribal tattoos.

Anybody walking around with things made out of human bones scares me though  Shocked

I was watching ray mears the other day (i love bushcraft i intend to learn soon) and he was with a head hunting tribe. i forgot where from. but i personally think they get a bad rep. it seems to me like they follow some old type of unwritten law that lets them kill (for what ever reason) and display the head as a reminder that they follow the law. but that seems like a small part of a whole but very interesting. I also like how you mentioned tattooing, my gf is learning to tattoo and has looked at tribal tattoos from around the world, and showed me some from head hunting tribes, she was talking but i dont remember much, but they look like the native new zealand tattoos. similar but not the same.

Very nice thanks.
Propaganda, has your gf managed to track down any books on the subject of NZ tribal tattoos?, from what I understand traditional tattooing has undergone a bit of a revival and we are starting to see a lot more facial moko as well. One of the big centres for this revival is in the Bay of Plenty region.

She aint the book type. and i havent had the chance to ask her. she' not happy with me right now. but when we was talking b4 she was talking how people are getting these old tats but with new equipment, she said there are still people out there that can do the old bone/tooth, stick and bang lightly method but there are no yellow pages for them  so it touch and go to find one.
